Ford Motor Co. has confirmed it has received permission in California for testing its self-driving car on public roads beginning in 2016. They recently said that they were going to begin the testing of their Ford Fusion hybrid shortly. This puts them in the same league as Google and Volkswagen as far as testing self-driving technology is concerned.
