Not only this, the F-150 also gets full marks on fuel economy since it delivers to you the highest EPA estimated highway fuel economy when compared with any other full sized gasoline powered pickup truck in the market.
The award was bestowed upon the F-150 by Green Car Journal. The GCJ team says that the F-150 is a great example of environmental leadership, and that the pickup truck field should follow Ford's example. They went on to say that the fuel options that Ford has injected into the system, and their use of steel and aluminum to reduce the weight of the vehicle, should be lauded.
F-150 Specifications
The F-150 comes fitted with a v-6 3.5 liter engine with six speed automatic transmission. The unleaded regular engine is capable of 253 @4250 torque with 282 @ 6250 horsepower. The rear wheel drive truck boasts of a fuel economy of 26 per gallon which is pretty significant. There is also an optional 2.7 liter ecoboost engine available.
The F-150 has already won the 2015 North American Truck of the Year and 2015 Detroit Free Press Truck of the Year award and with Green Truck of the Year, Ford has covered all the spots.
Eco Friendly Features
This incredible and amazing truck continues to be the best truck in the US for the past thirty or so years. Usually when pickup trucks are compared, enthusiasts and experts talk about payload, bed size, tow ratings, crew capacity with fuel economy getting a mention here and there.
Ford has now changed the game completely by choosing a less trodden path. The entire F-150 including the bed and body are made of aluminum panels that has been glued and riveted together. Even the ladder frame has been cut out of high strength reinforced steel that has a buffer in between for long term durability. This has helped the truck reduce its weight by over 500 pounds increasing its fuel efficiency by five to twenty percent.
It also uses REPREVE fiber that has been made entirely out of recycled bottles for its seats. The fuel lines have been made from castor bean oil. Ford has intelligently used rice hulls to reinforce the plastic used in the electrical harness. Not only this, the Ford team has also used shoddy that includes blue jeans, bath towels and tees materials.
This prolific F-150 is an engineering marvel that has raised the bar for other pickup trucks in the industry to follow.
No Bailout!
The 2.7 liter V-6 ecoboost engine allows this pickup truck to run on compressed propane or natural gas. Alternatively you can go for a lighter and more economical 5 liter v-8 engine. The F-150 has not only won a plenitude of awards but it is also big on the sales front. The F-150 rage is not going to settle down any soon it seems. On top of this, Ford never took a bailout like its rival GM did.
The F-150 is arguably one of the toughest, smartest, eco-friendliest, and capable Ford pickup truck ever. It will help cut unnecessary CO2 emissions and do its bit for Mother Earth.
