Bronco Sport vs. Bronco: Which One is Right For You? | Dunphy Ford
When you’re looking for a vehicle that really has it all– capability, off-roading power, historic heritage, and so much more– you’ll undoubtedly end up turning to the Ford Bronco family to find your ride. There’s so much quality to be found here, but it can also be a challenge to decide which of multiple excellent vehicle options is right for you. Will the Bronco or the Bronco Sport better suit your needs? That’s a question that everyone has to answer for themselves, but to help you out, here are some of the major differences between the two vehicles that you should consider!
Power and Performance
Everybody has different performance needs from their vehicle, so taking a look at what kind of power your vehicle options provide under the hood is a great place to start. The 2023 Bronco, for instance, is powered by a 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 Engine with an optional 2.7L EcoBoost V6 Engine to take things up a notch, giving you plenty of muscle. If you’re not looking for something quite that intense, the Bronco Sport’s engine might suit you better, a 1.5L EcoBoost® Engine with Auto Start-Stop Technology.
Capability and Off-Roading
Every vehicle in the Bronco family is equipped for some level of off-roading. However, depending on how committed you are to trail driving as a hobby or lifestyle, one or the other of these two vehicles might be the better choice for you. The Bronco Sport is better suited for lighter off-road driving, less frequent and less intense, while the true Bronco gives you the capability you need for seriously rugged trails and frequent punishing drives. It has higher breakover, approach, and departure angles, 4 levels of HOSS system available, and off-roading switches to engage features like front-locking and rear-locking differential, available Trail Turn Assist and available sway-bar disconnect. If you don’t need all of these features and prefer something a little more low-key, then the Bronco Sport is the way to go!
Economy and Practicality
For a vehicle that’s going to be your everyday ride, or that you’ll frequently be taking long trips in, taking a look at the practical aspects of that vehicle is highly important. Things like fuel economy and cargo space will affect your budget and your travel capabilities, so take them into consideration! The Bronco provides up to 20 city mpg and 21 highway mpg, as well as up to 52.3 ft3 of cargo space in the two door model with the seats down. The Bronco Sport does better in terms of mileage, with up to 25 city mpg and 28 highway mpg, but only provides up to 32.5 ft3 of cargo space, so you’ll have to trade off based on which feature is more important to you.
So, which is right for you, the Bronco or the Bronco Sport? That’s still a decision you’ll have to make for yourself, but hopefully you know feel better prepared to make it!
