Ford has not only been the proud manufacturer of America’s favorite truck, the Ford F-150, for many years now– it’s also one of the countries most preeminent automakers, and the company has just lately reconfirmed that prowess by once again claiming the top spot as America’s largest automaker by several important metrics.
Ford Motor Company is the country’s number one automotive company in terms of vehicles assembled, vehicles exported to other countries from America, and hourly workers employed. This is the sixth consecutive year that Ford has taken first place according to the latest data from S&P Global Mobility.
Ford employs about 57,000 hourly manufacturing workers in the United States, more than any other automotive company. A team of about 900 new hires is being put together for Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant to work on assembling new Bronco and Ranger vehicles. This isn’t the end of Ford’s prowess as a U.S. employer, either. Between them, Ford and Lincoln have over 2,800 dealerships throughout the country like Dunphy Ford, increasing the number of jobs they provide and communities they serve.
In 2023, Ford built over 1.8 million vehicles in the U.S., 130,000 more than any other automaker, at plants in Michigan, Missouri, Kentucky and Ohio. These vehicles ranged from traditional gas-powered models to hybrid and electric vehicles, covering SUVs and pickup trucks with the best-selling F-Series truck family being especially popular. Over 79% of the vehicles that Ford sells in the United States are assembled in the United States as well– more than any other automaker.
Ford also exported more American-assembled vehicles than any other automaker in 2023, a grand total of over 260,000 including the F-150, Bronco and Mustang. Roughly one in seven of the vehicles that Ford builds in the U.S. are exported to international markets including Canada, Mexico, China, Puerto Rico and South Korea.
