Ford Pro has announced that the new 2025 Ford Police Interceptor® Utility (PIU), equipped with the popular hybrid powertrain option, is now shipping to police agencies across the United States. This addition continues Ford's legacy of offering America’s best-selling lineup of police vehicles.
As the top-selling police vehicle in the country, the Ford PIU remains the benchmark for pursuit-rated law enforcement vehicles, now enhanced with a standard hybrid powertrain. This system allows the vehicle’s onboard equipment to operate even when the gasoline engine is off, potentially saving up to 838 gallons of fuel per year. This efficiency translates into projected savings of approximately $17,500 over a six-year ownership period, based on gas prices at $3.50 per gallon.
Lindsey Bertino, Ford Pro Police Vehicle Marketing Manager, highlighted the appeal of the hybrid powertrain, particularly for officers who often experience long idle times while on duty. She also noted the inclusion of standard features like the Police Perimeter Alert, which enhances situational awareness and safety, simplifying the vehicle ordering process for fleet managers.
Beyond fuel efficiency, the PIU has been designed and rigorously tested to meet Ford’s 75-mph rear-impact crash test goals, ensuring that officers are protected on the road. This level of safety has earned the PIU its pursuit-rated, pursuit-tested status.
The 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility comes equipped with a range of features designed to enhance officer safety and productivity. The Police Perimeter Alert system, for instance, detects any movement around the vehicle, automatically activating the rear camera, sounding an alert, rolling up windows, and locking the doors. This allows officers to monitor their surroundings at different sensitivity levels while focusing on tasks inside the vehicle. Additionally, the Police Engine Idle feature enables officers to lock the vehicle and take the keys with them while keeping the engine running to power essential onboard equipment.
For added protection, ballistic panels are available for the front doors, offering either level III+ or IV+ protection. The level III+ panels can resist many handgun and non-armor-piercing bullets up to .30 caliber, while the level IV+ panels provide defense against .30-caliber armor-piercing rifle rounds.
The 2025 PIU also comes standard with advanced driver-assist technologies such as Automatic Emergency Braking, BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert, Rear Parking Sensors, Reverse Brake Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Braking. These features offer additional safety and driving confidence in various scenarios.
The new PIU also introduces several features designed to assist officers and fleet managers during every shift. A standard 12.3-inch LCD digital instrument cluster with a certified speedometer ensures clear information display. The Manual Police Pursuit Mode, activated via a steering wheel button, allows officers to quickly switch to a high-performance tuning configuration without taking their hands off the wheel.
Other standard features include the Police Perimeter Alert system, Police Engine Idle, and Police Dark Car mode, which helps officers remain discreet during stakeouts. The Ford Pro Vehicle Integration System 2.0 also makes it easier to customize the vehicle, and advanced over-the-air capabilities enable seamless software updates.
Additionally, the PIU is equipped with four remappable switches integrated into the steering wheel, allowing officers to control lights, sirens, speakers, and other police applications effortlessly. An available lockable vault provides secure storage for weapons, ammunition, or critical evidence. The PIU also comes standard with Police Accessory Independent Timed-Release Output (PAITRO), a two-part security system that helps maintain the security of the rear cargo area.
The 2025 PIU also includes a built-in Ford modem, with an option to subscribe to Ford Pro Telematics. This service provides real-time vehicle data, helping fleet managers monitor vehicle performance and plan maintenance, thereby increasing uptime and productivity.
Assembled at the Chicago Assembly Plant in Illinois, the 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility is part of Ford’s extensive lineup of America’s best-selling police vehicles. This lineup also includes the 2024 F-150® Police Responder®, Expedition®/MAX SSV, and Transit® Prisoner Transport Vehicle models.
