Just when we think electrical vehicles can’t possibly advance anymore, Ford hits us with something new, this time in the form of the sleek and powerful Mustang Mach-E. Donna Dickson, Chief Engineer of the Mustang Mach-E, recently provided her own insight into the innovation the vehicle is displaying for the 2024 model year. Here’s a bit of what she had to say.
“As the Chief Engineer of the Mustang Mach-E SUV, a major part of my role is understanding what our customers really want and need. My team and I spend a lot of time thinking about what will excite our customers so we can build EVs that they’ll truly love.
“For 2024, we’re taking everything our customers love about Mustang Mach-E and incorporating that feedback into the vehicle. That means more performance – the quickest production Mustang Mach-E ever – capturing the thrill of driving with mountains of electric torque. That also means additional range with improved DC fast charging speeds, and more options matched to what our customers are looking for. And a new electric pony for our growing stable that can take you off-road when you want to get your Mustang a little dirty.
“Our 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT with the Mustang Mach-E GTTM Performance Upgrade truly is the quickest Mustang Mach-E to date. 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds, it is faster than both the Tesla Model Y Performance and the Porsche Macan 4 Electric. It cracks the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 114 mph4.
“The 2024 Mustang Mach-E® SUV with available extended range battery charges almost 20 percent faster with DC fast charging than previous models, enabling drivers to charge from 10-80% in approximately 36.2 minutes and get back on the road – that's 8.8 minutes faster than previous models – and standard range battery offerings charge 10-80% in 32.3 min, which is 5.7 minutes faster than the Mustang Mach-E at launch5.
“And Mustang Mach-E gets better with each model year… thanks to the new eMotor, along with other tweaks and improvements, we’ve increased the range of the vehicle compared to the first model year of Mustang Mach-E in 2021.
“The Mustang Mach-E Rally joins the stable and is the first-ever rally-inspired EV from Ford taking Mustang freedom and fun onto dirt roads. Rally is raised 1” higher than GT, tuned for both on road and off-road, with rally-inspired appearance wheels, tires, spoilers, and stripe package. It delivers astonishing performance while driving confidently and comfortably on and off road.
“Entertainment is now a breeze. Customers also told us that they didn’t like to switch between sources, so we integrated USB and Bluetooth® wireless technology into a single app. The Settings screen has been updated to display all the info on one page. We heard from customers that they didn’t like to scroll, and we actioned that feedback.
“When customers are ready to hit the road for a long road trip, using Ford BlueCruise for hands-free highway driving is a great option to help take some of the work out of driving, but not the fun.
