The time-honored tradition of trick-or-treating at Halloween is something that you just need for it to properly feel like fall. Without answering the door for costumed kids, taking your own kids out to walk the neighborhood, or even going trick-or-treating yourself, it just isn’t quite the same! Some communities have put a modern spin on the tradition by switching to trunk-or-treating, setting up and decorating the trunks of their cars to hand out candy to kids in big events where everyone comes together to celebrate. This year, Ford drivers are taking it a step further and showing off their frunk-or-treat setups!

What in the world is a frunk? Well, it’s just what it sounds like– a front trunk! New Ford vehicles like the F-150 Lightning are packed with exciting and innovative new features, and one of them is the Ford Mega Power Frunk, a design detail that takes storage (and Halloween) to the next level!

The Ford Mega Power Frunk on the F-150 Lightning is the epitome of clever storage solutions. Because of the vehicle’s 100% battery-electric powertrain, the space under the hood where the engine usually sits is unoccupied, and so the F-150 Lightning design team turned it into a frunk, adding storage in addition to the truck bed that a gas-powered pickup is unable to provide. The Mega Power Frunk, however, is about more than just the novelty of popping the hood to put your groceries away. It’s a uniquely well-equipped storage space. The frunk provides the capacity to carry up to 400 lbs of cargo, and at 14.1 ft3, it’s the largest front trunk available in all-electric pickup trucks.

The frunk is easily accessible via a wide range of methods. You can open it with your key fob, the grille-mounted release button, the FordPass App, the SecuriCode Keyless entry keypad, the dashboard button below the headlight knob, the center console touchscreen, or the service release inside the footwell, which is a helpful manual option if your vehicle loses power. The frunk features a durable, rubberized interior and a built-in drain hole, making cleaning quick and easy and even allowing you to use the frunk as a cooler! You’ll also find cargo hooks, cargo nets, and D-rings inside to help keep your cargo secure, plus a removable, no-skid floor mat, and an adjustable opening height for your hood, so that even if ceilings are low, you can easily access your frunk. Four Pro Power Onboard 120V outlets and two USB outlets can be found inside, delivering up to 2.4 kilowatts of power, and lights installed in the hood mean that you can always see your belongings easily! The frunk is an incredibly powerful tool to have access to.

This Halloween, F-150 Lightning drivers spruced up their frunks in all kinds of creative ways, using the ample space and available power to build exciting displays and themed dioramas. We know their friends and neighbors were delighted to see what they dreamt up, and so were we! Stop into Dunphy Ford today to try out the 2024 F-150 Lightning for yourself, and maybe next year you’ll be joining the frunk-or-treat Halloween ranks!
