A colorful icon from the 70s is making a return on the 2024 Bronco Sport. The much-anticipated vehicle is finally making its appearance, and the Free Wheeling special edition is making it a blast from the past. The Free Wheeling trucks, vans and Broncos of the 1970s were immensely popular, and with a comeback for 2024, Bronco fans are sure to love the colorful take on off-roading prowess.
The Free Wheeling package is a little piece of Ford history. Introduced in the 70s, it was available on the F-100, the F-150, the Bronco, and the Econoline van, and a handful of other vehicles. “The Ford Free Wheeling package was developed to appeal to younger customers,” said Ted Ryan, Archives and Heritage Brand Manager for Ford. “The Free Wheeling Broncos were as popular as they were distinctive.” The Free Wheeling package was a limited run, featuring graphics with red, orange and yellow gradients, painted steel wheels, black finishes on the grilles, mirrors, and bumpers, and red and orange pinstriping on the dashboard and seat stitching.
The outstanding, free-flowing colors were a huge hit with crowds in the 70s, with the resurgence of vintage style from the decade, modern Bronco customers are sure to love it too.
“Bronco customers appreciate its heritage,” said Jason Hyde, Bronco Sport Marketing Manager. “After such a great response to the reimagined Bronco Sport Free Wheeling project vehicle in 2021, we decided to bring this special edition that ties Bronco Sport to its fun loving roots.”
The 2024 Bronco Sport Free Wheeling edition features some modern upgrades while still calling back to its roots. The vehicle will feature reflective red, orange, yellow and silver body side graphics as well as similar graphics on the liftgate and hood, a silver-painted grille with two-tone Bronco badging, a modified lower front end insert, a Shadow Black roof, and 17-inch high-gloss black wheels with red accents. Sunset-colored seat inserts and ombre stitching and a Race Red C Channel and ombre stitching on the door trimming keep the party going inside the vehicle. The Bronco Sport Free Wheeling special edition also includes the drivetrain and all of the standard equipment of the Bronco Sport Big Bend model.
