The surge of electrified vehicles is continuing to change our world, and many different industries are now benefiting from the advantages that electric vehicles can offer them. With the help of Ford Pro, American police forces are the next group that will have the opportunity to go electric, with the newly revealed the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro Special Service Vehicle, America’s first electric pickup truck purpose-built for police use.

Ford has been supplying police departments across the country with vehicles for over 70 years. The Ford police lineup sells more vehicles than all other police vehicles combined, and over 12,000 police departments are customers of Ford Pro, so Ford is no stranger to making practical and functional vehicles for law enforcement. The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro SSV is built to perfectly blend power and performance to create a police truck that is unique to the industry thus far.

“We're proud to offer America’s first electric police pickup truck to local government customers who can use the truck’s game-changing technology to help improve their productivity,” said Nate Oscarson, Ford Pro national government sales manager. “Pro Power Onboard can serve as a mobile power source to light up evening accident scenes on the highway, the electric powertrain helps to potentially reduce costs associated with fuel and scheduled maintenance needs and the Mega Power Frunk provides extra lockable storage on top of purpose-built police additions our customers have come to expect from the leader in police vehicles.”

The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro SSV has far more to offer than just convenient power solutions and storage. The truck also includes available sub-four-second 0-60 mph acceleration capabilities, something that will be highly applicable for police usage. It’s also well-equipped for specialized needs outside of pursuit, such as assisting at accidents or crime scenes, or towing a department boat or trailer.

The police-grade heavy-duty cloth seats have reduced bolsters, allowing officers wearing holsters to enter and exit the vehicle more easily, and there is also an upfit-friendly reinforced instrument panel with a top tray to allow equipment to be mounted easily. Built-in steel intrusion plates protect the front seatbacks, vinyl rear seats and vinyl flooring allow for easy cleaning, and there are available red and blue or amber and white roof-mounted LED warning beacons.

The use and management of these new vehicles will be made even easier with Ford Pro software like available Ford E-Telematics. This software delivers manufacturer-grade information, insights and solutions about the vehicle, providing potential suggestions on fuel management, vehicle health and more. With the excellent design of the The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro SSV and the addition of this technology, integrating this vehicle into police forces will be much easier, allowing the benefits of the truck to be impactful more quickly.

More information about this vehicle will be coming out later this summer.
