The Ford Motor Company’s F-Series pickup recently topped America’s best-selling truck charts for the 40th straight year in 2021 and is again the industry’s top-selling truck for the 45th year in a row. The F-series now includes the F-150 model and other bigger pickups, and the fact that it has retained the “best-of” titles this year was significant given the world’s ongoing shortage of semiconductor chips that severely reduced production across the industry.

The blue oval company made production of the F-Series one of their primary concerns while having to shutdown certain production plants this year due to the shortage of components. The chip shortage may cause General Motors’ Chevrolet Silverado to lose its long-held second-place sales title this year to Stellantis’ Ram pickup, which only proves how desirable the F-Series selections are.

GM representative Jim Cain downplayed the nameplate rankings but said the Detroit automaker remains “very well positioned to deliver its seventh consecutive year of sales leadership in the full-size pickup segment.”

Ford sold 663,508 F-Series trucks through November, a 7% decrease from a year earlier. That includes 534,831 units through the first three quarters of the year, giving it a sizable lead over its Detroit-based rivals.

Ford determined its F-Series results Thursday after releasing its November sales, which were bumped up by 5.9% compared with a year earlier to 158,793 vehicles. In addition, Ford’s electric car sales grew three times faster than the entire electrified vehicle segment in November, delivering a 10% market share, up from over 5% the previous year. The Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Hybrid drove the company’s EV sales to 11,116 for the month, up 153.6 percent.

Ford, based on private industry information, stated it was the only major U.S. automaker to post a year-over-year increase in November. It also went on record to say it was the top-selling automaker in the country for a third consecutive month, marking the first time since 1974 that it has accomplished that streak.
