Ford released their sales report for 2018, the results of which underscore Ford’s renewed commitment to producing more trucks and SUVs for customers who are steering further away from sedans and coupes.
Ford saw increases in the amount of SUVS and trucks sold compared to June of last year, with the company already surpassing the amount of trucks they sold at this time last year, marking a momentous year for Ford pickups.

In the ever-growing utility segment, Ford saw an 8.9 increase in SUV sales compared to June of 2017. Ford sold a total of 84,617 SUVs last month, up from 77,712 in the same month last year. The company nearly surpassed the amount of SUVs they sold to date last year, selling 439,185 SUVs so far this year, just about 3,000 vehicles short.
The Ford Escape was the company’s top-selling utility in June 2018, up 6.4 percent from the year prior. Second was the Ford Explorer, which sold 19,310 vehicles in June.
The new Ford EcoSport also had an impressive showing in June with 6,756 EcoSports sold, up from 5,481 in May 2018.
The Year Of The Truck
Ford trucks continued to see success in June, with trucks sales up 3.2 percent from June 2017. Ford sold a total of 100,683 trucks, with over 79,000 of them being Ford F-Series pickups. So far this year, Ford has sold a total of 569,486 trucks, nearly 3,000 more trucks sold than this time last year.
Ford sold 451,138 F-Series trucks in the first half of 2018, a 4.9 percent increase from the amount of F-series trucks sold at the same time last year.
The Ford Transit also saw increases, with the vehicle seeing a 25 percent increase compared to June 2017.
Ford has sold a combined total of 972,555 trucks and SUVs so far this year, fitting in with their strategy to phase out cars as customers favor larger vehicles.
Mark Laneve, Ford’s vice president of marketing, sales and service, said the number reflects Ford’s status as the leaders in truck and SUV sales.
“As leaders in truck and SUV sales, the Ford brand had an incredible first half with almost 1 million sold. F-Series has posted gains for 14 consecutive months, while Ford SUVs posted a new record June sales month and Transit sales gain 25 percent,” he said.
