Last year saw the reveal of two all-new Ford police vehicles - the 2019 Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan and the 2018 Ford F-150 Police Responder. Now, after completing a strenuous test conducted by the Michigan State Police, the Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan and F-150 Police Responder are the first pursuit-rated hybrid sedan and pickup truck vehicles built for law enforcement use.
Both of these pursuit-rated vehicles are powered by Ford’s now-legendary 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine.
“Our new Fusion-based Police Responder Hybrid Sedan is quicker than our legendary V8-powered Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, while offering fuel efficiency that’s estimated to be double that,” said Stephen Tyler, Ford police brand marketing manager. “Plus, our new F-150 Police Responder offers police customers both on-road pursuit and off-road capability.”
Along with the Michigan State Police, Ford sought to test their pursuit-rated hybrid sedan and pickup truck vehicles through a grueling 32 laps at Grattan Raceway. The results found that Ford’s pursuit rating for both vehicles was confirmed. The simulation tests overall vehicle durability, including powertrain, suspension, brake and tire systems.
In acceleration testing, the new Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan set a new best for 0-100 mph performance, beating out the previous record held by the Crown Victoria by more than one second. Ford’s new Police Responder Hybrid Sedan has a projected EPA-estimated rating of 40 mpg city, 36 mpg highway and 38 mpg combined, making it twice as efficient as the Crown Vic.
From conducting local patrol to performing high-speed pursuit, Ford strives to meet the needs of law enforcement. Built for local patrol use, the Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan provides an efficient option that provides benefits such as, potential fuel savings and reduced CO2 emissions, as well as potentially fewer fill-ups. If you’re looking for something that gives you elite on-road pursuit, as well as outstanding off-road capabilities, then the all-new F-150 Police Responder will add a new element to your fleet.
