Each year Ford releases a new report discussing industry-related trends, and this time around the focus is on travel. Just in time for summer, their latest annual report entitled “Are We There Yet? Ford Explores the Reinvention of the Great American Road Trip” examines the reinvention of the classic road trip, a type of vacation the American auto giant says has recently come back in style.
Both Millennials and members of Generation X have put down the plane tickets in favor of hitting the trail, with as many as 79% estimated to be planning a road trip this calendar year. While Millennials are interested in building experiences and taking adventures, Gen X-ers hope to explore nature and spend quality time with their families.
With contributions from Ford experts and professionals from the travel industry, “Are We There Yet” provides an insider’s look at why road trips have experienced a sudden rise in popularity. Factors such as social media and a shift in the ways people prefer to spend their money - today more on experiences than material possessions - are thought to have had a major effect.
According to Lonely Planet editor Rebecca Warren, a guest contributor, top road trip destinations include Natchez Trace Parkway, the Hudson River Valley and the Pacific Coast. Ford’s SUV Group marketing Manager, Michael O’Brien suggests the Explorer, Expedition and EcoSport for excellent vehicle choices.
