Ford has decided to step up and serve as the principal sponsor of the 2017 Woodward Dream Cruise, to be held August 19th. The move comes after Chevrolet announced that it would no longer be the event’s main sponsor, bringing an end to a six year run.

The cruise is an important event for automobile culture, and draws well over a million attendees. It celebrates vehicle culture and is a massive classic car event. Ford is no stranger to the massive event, as it continues to run a popular staple event of the cruise; Mustang Alley. The sponsorship that Ford presented made it possible for the cruise to take place. The event has faced financial hardships in the past, but this year they are fully funded, with additional funds leftover for the communities in which the cruise takes place.

Parties on both sides seem to be very pleased with the new arrangement. Greg Rassel, who is both the volunteer president of the event's non-profit operating board and Royal Oak’s director of parks and recreation, is quoted as saying, "We're just thrilled to have this great relationship with our new presenting sponsor.” The Woodward Dream Cruise team appears to be excited with Ford now serving as the event sponsor. Rassel was also quoted as saying, “We're looking forward to having some exciting new features at the Dream Cruise that will be Ford-related."

Rassel’s quote concluded with mentioning new features at the event that will be Ford-related. There are four such events that Ford is planning on launching in addition to their staple Mustang Alley. The events are as follows; three separate Ford vehicle displays, one displaying track cars, one SUVS and crossovers, and the third performance vehicles, as well as a Ford Driving Skills For Life trailer for teaching teenagers safe driving practices. Ford’s new sponsorship allows the Woodward Dream Cruise to continue on this year, as well as providing four new features for the event, benefiting both Ford and the cruise.
