In recent months, Ford has been working hard to develop some of the latest, cutting edge technologies. As the company works towards autonomous vehicles and alternative fuels, the breakthroughs that Ford makes are numerous. This is a continuation of Ford’s longstanding practice of being at the head of development and innovation. This isn’t just in the case of their vehicles though.

Ford has a history of developing and implementing advanced technologies outside of their vehicle fleet. Most recently, this technology comes in the form of an exoskeleton. Ford has begun the first round of tests of its new EksoVest. This piece of exoskeleton technology is lightweight, and worn by the workers to help decrease strain and workload.

Ford decided to start implementing the vest in order to give their workers a better working environment, and to help keep their employees from getting injured. Many Ford workers on the product line reach above their heads to do work over 4,000 times per day. That repetitive motion can put a serious strain on the back; the body is not built to do this sort of motion over and over. With the EksoVest, employees can complete these tasks more efficiently and comfortably.

The EksoVest has seen testing in two Ford plants, but this number will likely grow due to the success of the technology. The stress it releases from workers’ backs is invaluable. Ford’s technological advances not only benefit its customers, but also its hardworking employees.
