In a slight change from tradition, Ford has decided to make the new 2018 Mustang GT quieter. Not to worry if you are a fan and admirer of the V8 rumble; Ford is not getting rid of the V8 or the Mustang’s power. Rather, the company has decided to include two new features that allow the vehicle to drive quieter, while not sacrificing performance.

These two new features come in the form of the Quiet Exhaust mode and the Quiet Start mode. The latter is even an industry first. The goal of these two modes is to make the powerful vehicle more friendly; the revving engine noise has been proven to upset many neighbors.

The idea for the two new modes came in the form of some first-hand experience with the trouble a loud engine can cause. Steve von Foerster, who was formerly the head of vehicle engineering at Ford Motor Company, actually had the police called on him after he drove his vehicle through his residential neighborhood. Foerster drives a Shelby GT350 Mustang, which features a V8 engine known for its heavy rumble.

The Quiet Start and Quiet Exhaust modes will allow drivers to continue to drive the powerful 2018 Mustang while reclaiming some discretion when driving through quiet residential areas. Foerster saw to this when he realized that despite its allure, the V8 could be very disruptive to his neighbors. The modes bring the V8 rumble from a chest rattling decibel to a decibel that makes the vehicle purr at a level similar to an ordinary dishwasher.

The new 2018 Mustang GT is set up to be incredibly versatile, from its quiet mode features to its new place as Ford’s fastest Mustang ever.
