The winter is a pain in the backside for every driver simply because, most so called bad boy trucks and SUVs, just can’t live up to their expectations when it is snowing heavily.

Well, there is hope in site. There is one player in the market challenging the snow gods to try harder. The Ford Focus RS is what we are talking about. And it is not even an SUV or a truck! What is going on around here?! Has the world gone mad?! Has the car engineers lost their minds?!

This is a beast which has got muscles packing no less than 350 horsepower. The four-wheel drive it offers is something to experience before you meet the grave. In short, here is a car which is definitely turning heads. And, the best part? Unlike competitors, it is on the move all year long including the chilling winter thanks to the winter tire package.

What? Read on please…..

What is the winter package?

It is an add-on package available all over US which transforms the Ford Focus RS into a snow monster.

The Aesthetic Advantage

The worst thing about snowy roads is the salt and dirt that comes along with it. After a long drive, if you were lucky enough to survive it, try checking the rims – it’ll look like it was recently painted with the grime of the world. The Ford Focus RS winter package comes with a set of eighteen inch aluminum alloy wheels painted in silver which helps to hide the hideous dirt and sand that comes along with a ride in the snow.

Is it effective?

The silver colored rims are wrapped with the latest Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 tires which have an out of the world tread pattern to make sure the tires are glued to the road even during a blizzard. You can tear down the snow as if it’s a race track – well not quite – be careful out there. It also has the pressure sensors and roller caps just like the 19-inch standard Ford Focus RS wheels.

Ease of Changing

These tires come mounted and balanced and are very easy to change. It is a direct bolt-on and very easy to replace. Even though dealers wouldn’t mind installing them for you, you can always flip the switch to mount to them in your garage. This is just as easy as mounting any other wheel and tire set.

So how much is this package worth?

The winter package of the Ford Focus RS comes at $1,995. The Michelin Pilot PA4 tires come with a price tag of $225 each. That would amount to be a total of around $900 to $1,000 for all four tires which is a pretty decent deal, considering the pressure sensors which come along with it. Moreover if you live in Canada, there is no need to get the extra package, it comes along as if it was standard equipment!

A Statement from Ford

It is fair to say that Ford really did their homework with the Ford Focus RS. Adam Wirth, the chassis supervisor at Ford Performance was quoted saying that they started this project knowing exactly what their customers needed – a beast to count on even on the snowiest of nights and in the most arduous conditions.

It shows that Ford are reaching out to not just make a car which boasts of raw horse power – but also something which will practically solve the problem facing every car-owner in the winter who lives in snowy conditions. Such innovative products are surely going to challenge other players in the market to get not just better but also much more creative!
