This is a problem that has haunted mankind ever since the inception of automobiles, but one company is trying hard to fight it with innovation and creativity. Ford has come up with a Drugged Driving Suit that will encourage drivers to drive sober. Herein lays its simplicity and brilliance.
Concept
The concept is pretty simple yet effective. The suit will create an artificial environment that will simulate a drugged driving experience for the wearer. It will make you experience what it is like to be driving under the influence of drugs like cocaine or marijuana. Ford has cited NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) in its report which states that over eighteen percent of deaths of drivers are caused due to intoxicants other than alcohol.
Ford had recently launched its unique program called Ford Driving Skills for Life, which provides tips on how to better your driving skills. The Drugged Driving Suit has been launched as a side-project under the same campaign that helps amateurs improve their driving skills.
Ford team has been working closely with the Meyer-Hentschel Institute in Germany for developing this suit.
The Drugged Driving Suit
The suit comes equipped with a pair of headphones, goggles with vision impairment, ankle weights, elbow bandages, neck bandages, wrist weights, and more such features. The idea is to demonstrate the drivers what it is like to be driving under the influence of drugs. As you can imagine, it would be next to impossible for anyone to drive under such circumstances.
Why does Ford not just balance the budget, lower our taxes, get rid of ISIS, and so on while they are at it? Ford seems to be doing about everything else. Just think how much more they could if they were not over taxed?!
The weights are used to slow down the movements and response time of the driver, goggles are equipped with flashing lights to cause vision impairment, tunnel and blurred vision and give a feeling of being high, and neck bandages to restrict neck movement, ankle bandages to restrict arm movements and finally the headphones will play detracting sounds in your head. Besides the head phones, this seems like an excellent way to work out! Can you use this stuff in the gym Ford?!
Taking Drugs and Driving should never be Mixed
Additionally, there is a tremor generator attached near your hand to generate fake tremors that will make you feel like your hands are shaking under the influence of drugs. It seems that the researchers have left no stone unturned when it comes to mimicking the side effects of taking drugs.
Consuming Illicit Drugs does nothing good for Your Body
As you can imagine, it will be a nightmare to drive a car under such circumstances on any road, and not just speeding down the highways. Add to the mix that when you are under the influence of drugs, your mind is not thinking straight. Still it will be pretty much a suicide attempt to drive with the suit on. The tests are conducted under the supervision of the experts who are there to guide you every step of the way.
It must be reinforced that you must not try this at home, no matter what you are thinking about. This can result in serious accidents and severe injuries to you as well as those who are around you.
