Since the Mustang’s debut in 1964, it has grown to become an American icon representing freedom, fast speeds, and an untamed wild spirit. Now as technology continues to drive society forward, Ford aims to progress with the newest edition to the Mustang family: the all-electric SUV Mustang Mach-E. The Mustang Mach-E made its world debut this Sunday, November 17, 2019, giving a taste of what to expect for its late 2020 showroom release.

“At the first-ever Detroit auto show, Henry Ford said he was working on something that would strike like forked lightning,” said Bill Ford, executive chairman, Ford Motor Company. “That was the Model T. Today, the Ford Motor Company is proud to unveil a car that strikes like forked lightning all over again. The all-new, all-electric Mustang Mach-E. It’s fast. It’s fun. It’s freedom. For a new generation of Mustang owners.”

Ford realized many people think electric vehicles are meant to be more environmentally friendly and that’s all. So Ford decided to show the world how efficient electric can be and how fast it can go. The Mustang Mach-E will be available in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options and offers a standard battery or an extended-range battery. The extended-range battery paired with rear-wheel drive will see 300 miles to full charge. The all-wheel drive system that will be available with the release of the Mach-E has been tested against the elements facing snowy and wet terrain for improved traction and handling. The Mach-E is also the first production vehicle to be tuned by the Ford Performance team, utilizing their racing simulator in North Carolina. The all-wheel drive system in the Mach-E has been created to independently apply torque to the front and rear axles to push for faster acceleration and improved handling. This all-wheel drive vehicle will produce 332 horsepower and 417 lb.-ft. of torque.

In case that isn’t fast enough, Ford is also releasing the Mach-E in two performance models: Mustang Mach-E GT and the GT Performance Edition. Both performance models will produce 459 horsepower and 612 lb.-ft. of torque. The Mustang Mach-E GT is projected to accelerate from 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds. Faster yet, the GT Performance Edition accelerates from 0 to 60 in the mid 3 second range, comparable to a Porsche 911 GTS.

“The Mustang Mach-E wholeheartedly rejects the notion that electric vehicles are only good at reducing gas consumption,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s chief product development and purchasing officer. “People want a car that’s thrilling to drive, that looks gorgeous and that can easily adapt to their lifestyle – and the Mustang Mach-E delivers all of this in unmatched style.”

Lets not forget that Ford drivers need more than speed; they also have families and need space for their groceries, sports equipment, and other cargo. With seating for 5 adults, you can pack the whole family in the Mach-E for wherever you need to go. The Mach-E also features 29 cubic feet of storage space, or the rear seats can be folded down to make way for a total of 59.6 cubic feet of storage space. Oh, and Ford has a little surprise under the hood with a drainable front trunk storage space. The drainable front trunk storage space offers 4.8 cubic feet of space, enough for a carry-on bag. Ford made the storage space drainable so it could also be ideal to fill with ice and keep drinks cool on the way to the beach or at a pre-game tailgating event.

The Mach-E doesn’t stop with speed and performance and cargo space; it also offers the next generation of technology. The Mach-E debuts Ford’s Phone As Key technology. Through Bluetooth technology, the driver’s smartphone will communicate with the vehicle to unlock and start it. This is all done hassle-free without the driver even needing to take the phone out of their pocket. If that’s not enough, the Mach-E will also introduce the next generation of SYNC technology. The new version of SYNC uses predictive technology, so once it learns the driver’s behaviors it can prompt tasks that it knows you already do, such as calling home after work.

While the Mach-E is expected to be released late 2020, Ford is currently accepting limited reservations.
